Synopsys to Boost R&D Operations in Taiwan
December 21, 2007
US-based EDA (Electronic Design Automation) software and service provider Synopsys has signed a contract with Taiwan's MOEA (Ministry of Economic Affairs) on December 18, whereby Synopsys will set up its second EDA R&D center in Taiwan.

As the first foreign company to set up an EDA R&D center in Taiwan, Synopsys expects to develop total EDA solutions so as to establish a comprehensive supply chain in Taiwan.

In addition, Synopsys has also signed MoUs (Memorandum of Understanding) with National Chip Implementation Center, SoC Technology Center of Industrial Technology Research Institute, and Andes Technology, a joint venture between MediaTek and Faraday, for further collaboration and development on 65nm and 45nm process technologies. The company plans to make an investment of up to NT$1 billion (US$31 million; US$1 = NT$32.5) into this project over the next three years, Chinese-language Commercial Times reported.
